When I first came across ramie, I thought it was a synthetic fibre as I'd never heard of it before...live and learn.
Ramie, like linen, has:
- long lustrous fibres that look like silk
- has great absorbency
- breathes well which, I think, makes it ideal for summer clothing.
The yarn you make from this starts off a little stiff but it softens with every wash.
I spun 25 g and made it into a double-ply yarn. The end result was approximately 43 m (47 y).
